What is the function of skin?
Let’s start at the basics – why do we have skin and how important is it for our health? At its most fundamental, skin provides a physical and chemical barrier between the outside environment and the inside tissues of the body – this means that it works hard to keep the good stuff in, like water, and keep the bad stuff out, like chemicals and environmental exposures. This is called the “barrier function”.
The health of your skin plays a pivotal role in its appearance. A healthy, hydrated complexion with a well packed and functional barrier means smoother and more luminous skin with a healthy glow.
How important is a skin care routine?
Caring for your skin the right way can make a significant difference to the way it looks and feels – not just today but for the long haul! Whether it’s hyperpigmentation, acne scarring or deep lines and wrinkles, prevention is always far easier and less costly than attempting to tackle skin concerns in the future.
All skin types are different and need to be cared for in different ways – this means for some, a little goes a long way and for others, a little extra TLC is required. While it can be a case of trial and error before you find your perfect match, we’ve broken down skin types and our recommended routines below.
